Steel Plug-and-Flange Assembly for Stock Tanks

The S-200 is a complete two-piece steel drain assembly designed as a heavy-duty alternative to the polyethylene Model 2152. Our 11-foot galvanized stock tank uses a plug-and-flange assembly instead of the one-piece Model 2131 plug installed on all other Hastings tanks.

The two sections pass through the tank wall and fasten together around the drain opening. The included rubber seal sits against the tank to help create a watertight connection.

Understanding the Three Hastings Plugs

The S-200 should not be confused with the other Hastings replacement plugs:

• Model 2131 is the standard 3/4-inch zinc-plated replacement plug used in most Hastings stock tanks. It replaces the removable plug and does not replace the complete flange assembly.
• Model 2152 is the two-piece polyethylene plug-and-flange assembly supplied as standard equipment with the Hastings 11-foot stock tank.
• Model S-200 is the two-piece heavy-duty steel plug-and-flange alternative to Model 2152.

Both Model 2152 and S-200 replace the complete assembly passing through the tank wall.

Compatibility

The S-200 is an alternative to Model 2152 for its 11-foot stock tank. It may also be suitable for another stock tank when the tank has the correct 3/4-inch mounting hole and a flat surface on both sides of the opening.

Before ordering, confirm:

• You require a complete plug-and-flange assembly rather than a removable plug alone.
• The tank opening is the correct size.
• Both sides of the tank wall around the opening provide a flat sealing surface.
• The tank wall and opening are not cracked, distorted, heavily corroded, or otherwise damaged.
• There is enough access inside and outside the tank to position and tighten the assembly.

Do not order the S-200 based only on the nominal 3/4-inch drain size. The mounting hole, tank-wall shape, available clearance, and sealing surfaces must also be suitable.

When to Replace the Complete Assembly

Consider replacing the plug-and-flange unit when:

• The original assembly is missing.
• The plug or flange is bent, corroded, worn, or damaged.
• The threads are damaged.
• The flange no longer sits securely against the tank.
• The rubber seal has deteriorated.
• The drain continues to leak after cleaning and correct tightening.
• You want to replace a compatible polyethylene assembly with the steel alternative.

A new assembly will not repair a cracked tank, distorted tank wall, enlarged drain opening, or damaged sealing surface.

What Is Included

Tools, plumbing fittings, valves, hoses, sealants, and other installation materials are not included unless expressly stated in the product listing.

Removal and Installation Overview

Use a 1½-inch socket, wrench, or large pliers to unscrew the outer section while securely holding the inner flange. Locking pliers may be used when necessary.

Before installation:

1. Remove the existing plug-and-flange assembly.
2. Clean the tank and the area surrounding the drain opening.
3. Inspect the opening and tank wall for cracks, distortion, corrosion, or other damage.
4. Remove dirt, mineral deposits, rust, old sealing material, and debris from the contact surfaces.
5. Confirm that the new steel components and rubber seal are clean and undamaged.
6. Position the threaded section, flange, and rubber seal correctly through the tank opening.
7. Hold the inside portion securely while tightening the outside portion.
8. Tighten the assembly evenly until it is secure and the rubber seal is seated properly.
9. Add a small amount of water and inspect the connection before completely refilling the tank.

Do not cross-thread or overtighten the assembly. Excessive force can damage the threads, deform the rubber seal, or place unnecessary stress on the tank wall.

Creating a Watertight Connection

The rubber seal must rest evenly against a clean, flat, undamaged surface. A twisted, displaced, dirty, or deteriorated seal may allow the connection to leak.

A replacement assembly may not stop leakage caused by:

• A cracked or damaged tank wall
• A distorted or enlarged opening
• Uneven sealing surfaces
• Incorrect component placement
• Contaminated contact surfaces
• Cross-threaded components
• Insufficient or excessive tightening
• A damaged rubber seal

If the connection leaks during testing, empty the tank and correct the cause before returning it to regular service.

Choosing Between the Poly and Steel Assemblies

Model 2152 is the standard polyethylene plug-and-flange assembly supplied with the Hastings 11-foot stock tank. The S-200 provides a steel alternative for the same drain arrangement.

Choose the replacement that matches your tank, existing opening, preferred material, and installation requirements. If compatibility is uncertain, compare the old assembly with the replacement before ordering.
