The Worst Part ... Waiting
Now that the order has been placed, what do you do in the meantime before you receive your tank? Now is a great time to start planning your foundation. Our tanks are big and heavy. Some might wonder whether it can sit on a wooden deck. The answer to this question is generally NO! unless you have built your deck to carry the weight of a pickup truck. Water is heavy, at around 8 pounds per gallon. Some of our tanks hold more than 1000 gallons; quick math gives a quick answer. There are many items you can use to level the foundation area. Sand and peat moss work wonders. These tanks are designed for livestock in fields, so you can even plop them down on the grass, and it will be ok, as long as it is pretty level and there is some drainage for water under the tank, everything should be fine. We have many clients who use Mudslabs as a foundation for their tanks; they are available from our sister company, Livestock Equipment Canada . You can find those by simply clicking this link.
The Call
The foundation is prepared, you have all your accessories ready to go, and you leap with anticipation to a ringing phone. It's us, and we are ready to schedule your delivery. We will confirm that all delivery information is correct and schedule a day and time for our truck to arrive. We usually give about a 1-hour window. When we arrive, our shipping department will be ready to help move the tank to the spot you have prepared. **
Now comes the exciting part! Go grab the hose! Once your tank is all filled up, it is ready for enjoyment! Throw a floatie or two in there, hop in and enjoy your new tank!
FAQ
Many questions have been raised regarding the dos and don'ts of stock tanks.
Can I add chlorine to my tank?
The short answer is to use chlorine in limited amounts and carefully monitor the strength. However, there is a lot more to it than that. So much in fact, we have created an entire blog article specifically about this topic.
Will my tank get hot?
Nope! The tank will only get as hot as the water does. We sell solar covers, which are excellent for controlling water temperature. They are all sold as 10-foot round pieces to be cut to size.
Do I have to worry about my tank rusting?
Our tanks are made of zinc-coated, galvanized steel, a process that stops rusting and corrosion for years under regular use. Adding sanitation chemicals like bromine or chlorine is not considered regular use as these chemicals will attack the zinc coating on the tank, and win. Find out more in this Chlorine vs Galvanizing article.
Do I need anything else for my tank?
Nope! You can hop right in once it is filled up with water. If desired, there are many things you can purchase to add enjoyment to your tank. Items like fountains, drink and phone holders, solar covers, debris vacuums, pumps, filters and heaters. The list goes on and on. Additional steps can help keep the tank cleaner for longer!
Can the stock tank be heated?
Yes! There have been many ways to plumb a tank for an external filter or even a water heater. YouTube is full of videos with more information on this! It is important to understand that drilling holes to accommodate hoses/fittings will void the warranty of your stock tank.
