MC-5100 has been specifically engineered for performance on all common alloys of aluminum, including magnesium alloys. Because of its unique properties and bonding characteristics, we decided to test it as a barrier coating for the galvanized tanks. So far, after 5 years of testing, it really works well protecting the galvanizing against the lightly chlorinated water. However, over doing the chlorine level in the water will still cause damage to the galvanized coating.
A light thin layer is all that is needed. An 8' diameter tank will use anywhere between a 1/4 to a 1/2 of a bottle. The 10' tanks usually use a bit more than 1/2 a bottle.
